Ekaterina Chernousova is a singer, pianist, and composer specializing in the improvisational fusion of classical, ethnic music, and jazz – World & Art Improvisation Music. She is the creator of a new musical direction called "music culturonics."



About the Artist
A unique improviser, multilingual vocalist, pianist, and composer, Ekaterina blends classical, ethnic, and jazz music in her work – World & Art Improvisation Music. She is pioneering a new musical approach known as "music culturonics."

From 2002 to 2022, she was a soloist with the Presidential Orchestra of Russia. Over the years, she has performed alongside global music legends such as Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and Igor Butman. Ekaterina also collaborated with the "Kremlin Ballet" as a concertmaster, working on ballet productions with Yuri Grigorovich and collaborating with prominent figures in the Russian ballet world, including Y. Maksimova and Y. Volodin. She also worked with theater director Kirill Serebrennikov.

Her work has been featured in Russian and international media, and she is listed in the "Encyclopedia of Russian Jazz" and Wikipedia.
Education & Membership
She graduated from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and also completed vocal studies at the I. Kozhinov Vocal School. Ekaterina has taught voice at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and the International Vocal Center "Solveig." She has served as a jury chair for music competitions in both Russia and Italy.

She has been a member of the Moscow Union of Composers since 2007.
Performances all over the world
She has performed internationally in the United States, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, India, Thailand, Israel, and Georgia.

Ekaterina has toured in Greece, Cyprus, India, the United States, Germany, Finland, and Thailand. She performs in philharmonic halls across Russia and at top jazz clubs in Moscow, including Kozlov Club, ESSE, and Jam Club.

Portfolio: A Journey Through Sounds
Ekaterina Chernousova sings in more than ten different languages. She performs in a new style (World & Art Improvisation Music), where ethnic vocals, classical singing, jazz improvisation, and spontaneous instrumental experiments blend into a dynamic exploration of global cultures and traditions. Jazz improvisation
Since 1997, Ekaterina has been involved in jazz improvisation with the renowned Russian pianist Daniil Kramer, with whom she has performed at jazz festivals across Russia.

In 2002, she founded the jazz-fusion group "The Rooms," where she demonstrates her remarkable talent for multi-genre creativity and improvisational brilliance.

In 2006, participated in a training program in the United States as part of the American "Open World" program. Performed at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, one of the largest jazz festivals in U.S., presenting original compositions. Received high praise from renowned jazz musicians such as Hank Jones, Paquito D’Rivera, Jeff Hamilton, Roberta Gambarini, Benny Green, and others.
World & Art Improvisation Music: From Classical and Opera to Jazz&Ethnic
Ekaterina is known for her unique jazz arrangements and improvisations on works by classical composers, including Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev.

Her repertoire includes everything from instrumental arrangements of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" to Russian, Georgian, Armenian, Jewish, Finnish, and Brazilian songs in original improvisational settings.

The unique, deeply-rooted sound of her voice can seamlessly transition between operatic tones and jazz elements. This rare and exceptional gift is a standout feature on the global stage.
Ethnic project: The Language of Music
Between 1993 and 2005, Ekaterina took part in folk expeditions across Russia. Together with Professor V. Shchurov from the Moscow Conservatory, she collected a wealth of traditional songs, some of which became part of the ethno-fusion project "Russian Mood."

Additionally, she researched and arranged authentic compositions from Georgia, Israel, and Finland.

  • 2004
    She won the 1st prize in the "Vocal" category at the International Festival in Kazan.
  • 2006
    She performed at the largest jazz festival in Hampton, USA, as part of the U.S. Library of Congress program "Open World." She won the 3rd prize in the "Vocal" category at the "Golden Hanukkah" Festival in Germany.
  • 2007
    She became a member of the Moscow Union of Composers.
  • 2010
    She was ncluded in the "Russian Encyclopedia of Jazz" (compiled by V.B. Feyertag).
  • 2014
    She was a Laureate of the International Vocal Competition "Terem-Crossover-2014" in St. Petersburg.
  • 2015
    She awarded a diploma by "Radio Russia" for participation in the International Folk Competition of S. Strachina (Bratislava). She took the second place at the International Vocal Competition in Belgrade (Serbia) in the "Folk Vocal" and "Academic Vocal" categories.
  • 2018
    She was the finalist of the International competition "Miss Ethnica 2018."
  • 2018-2019
    She won the first place in two categories – "Jazz" and "Folk Singing" at the International Dunaevsky Competition in Moscow (2018).
  • 2019
    She won Grand Prix at the International Dunaevsky Competition for best classical arrangement.
  • 2023
    She won Grand Prix at the Grand Music Competition for best arrangement.
  • 2024
    She performed at international festivals in Novokuznetsk and SANDLERFEST with her project "Around the World" in 10 languages.
  • 2024
    She performed at international festivals SANDLERFEST on Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNH) with her project "Around the World" in 10 languages.
